The eyes are windows to the brain for infants. Infants cannot follow all directions or say their answers in words. They are, however, equipped with vision. Even a newborn can recognise familiar faces within days!

Eye movements are closely linked to brain processes such as attention, memory, and decision-making. In the lab, infants and children will be shown pictures of objects, patterns, and sequences, while the eye tracker follows their eye gazes. Sound effects and songs will sometimes accompany the visual pictures.

There are no reported adverse effects from the few minutes that the child is asked to look at the screen or objects. Prolonged and passive screen time (i.e., without purpose or learning) for infants should be avoided.
